Our tour will start with a meeting at Relogio da Carioca, an antique iron tower clock, located right at the exit of the Carioca Subway station, more specifically in the Carioca Square, of the busiest areas of downtown Rio. It is located between several of the main streets of the city centre and continues as a pulsating heart of the city, where there is a lot of pedestrian traffic. Then you will take the LRV (Light Rail Vehicle) and head to the Olympic Boulevard, where you will have a historical and cultural tour through the Sea Port Area.
The region called Porto Maravilha (Wonder Port) started to be revitalised in 2010 and now has a variety of interesting buildings and museums. You will take a good walk passing the Olympic Boulevard, through The Gale Rio Porto Maravilha (Wonder Port GaleRio), a sequence of panels that make up an artistic pathway with walls that have been painted by 20 artists and the famous street art mural, called Etnias, painted by Eduardo Kobra.
Also, you will have a chance to visit the MAR, installed at Praça Mauá, in two buildings with heterogeneous and interconnected profiles: The Dom João VI Mansion, listed and eclectic, and the neighbouring building, which has a modernist style and was originally a bus terminal. You can get a nice view of the Museum of Tomorrow from MAR's rooftop.
A science museum in the city, right across MAR. It was designed by Spanish neofuturistic architect Santiago Calatrava, and built next to the waterfront at Pier Maua. This intricate yet captivating museum mixes science with an innovative design to focus on sustainable cities and an ecological world.
