Overview
This tour is all about cycling and stimulating your taste buds. The location Chiang Mai with its wide a wide selection of different typical Thai delicacies is a perfect choice. We start our ride late afternoon (16:30h) from our meeting point in Moo Baan Nai Fun. With the setting sun we cycle through and around the city for a culinary journey of Chiang Mai. Riding Chiang Mai’s backstreets and alleyways stopping at street side stalls and food markets the whole world of Northern Thai food will spring forth to delight your taste buds and fill your belly. In addition to Muang Food you will also get to sample some Shan or Tai Yai food.
What you will be doing
The first stop on the food tour is to give you an impression of all the delicious home cooked meals that are ready to be taken home for everyone to eat. You will be surprised by the freshness and the enormous offer. At this market, we will get a small snack and some fruit to get our taste buds going
Before we continue our journey to the city, we will visit a beautiful silver temple complex where your guide will explain all about Buddhism and about the history and culture of Chiang Mai
Back on the bikes, riding through small alleys, we will arrive at the North Gate market, where we will get some barbecue pork or chicken. This market has many food stalls where locals come to sit and have a meal in the evenings.
After this delicious appetiser, we will cycle to the Navel of the City Temple or Wat Intaking, which was the original site of the city pillar that was the centre of the city and therefore named the city’s belly button. We spend a few minutes here admiring the 700-year-old White Buddha and listening to the monks chanting
Back on the bikes and riding past the Three Kings Monument, we are off to the next stop on our adventure
With the sun now slowly setting, we ride to the biggest fresh market of Chiang Mai to learn about northern Thai food. We will sample some exotic fruits on the market for later at the end of the meal
Once we have finished our shopping, we will cycle through Chinatown and we taste a nice noodle soup as a starter for our meal to come at our next stop
We are now ready to eat more and off to our main restaurant for some delicious Northern food. Don’t worry, vegetarians will have plenty to choose from. The guide will explain each dish and explain some of the Chiang Mai traditions about food. Then dig in! You'll experience traditional cuisine that's hard to find in any other restaurant. At the end of our dinner, enjoy the exotic Thai fruits chosen earlier in the market
After this enjoyable dinner, we are off to our last stop for a nice cup of coffee and perhaps something sweet at the Mae Kha klong, where we can walk around and watch the locals and tourists posing for pictures at this charming location. Then it's time to cycle the last stretch back to our meeting point, where we will finish around 20:00h.
